How much are pianos?
If you have no idea what kind of piano you are looking for, any price from salesman isn't going to mean very much without some type of frame of reference. Quality pianos last a long time - 70 to 90 years and beyond.
With the addition of competing piano brands, there is a large market for used pianos as well. The value of used pianos is based on quality of manufacturer, age and mostly condition. If you have a piano you want appraised,
call a technician. Pianos manufacturers do not change their models much from year to year, so used pianos will not become, obsolete like computers which are typically resold at a fraction of the cost of a new one. Unlike the auto industry,
most models largely remain the same for decades, in turn given their extremely long life span, explains why many quality pre-owned pianos sell for as much if not more than their new counterparts price. A 10 year old car is consider quite old compared to a new version with new technology
(example: CD player, new digital dash and better safety features.) A 10 year old pianos is considered to be in it's infancy. Since an identical new model sells for say $5000, a mint condition ten year old "twin" could easily sell for $3500 on the open market
To determine the value of a used piano one should find out how much the new one sells for and keep the price just low enough to attract the buyer to waive the benefits of a new one.
On the subject of older pianos or when the original manufacturer is no longer in business, you must shop and compare comparable types of pianos. The condition of the piano outweighs everything else.
A qualified technician will greatly help determine the pianos' playing condition (tuning ability, tone, movement of piano action, hammer condition, etc.) The price of a new piano is usually determined by MSRP.
Don't worry, all you need to do is find a trustworthy piano man (or woman). Find a local piano dealer with a full-time service department. One that has the ability to rebuild, refinish, (etc.) and ask him to show you the inside and outside of the piano. Don't settle for less.
A piano dealer with a quality warranty must have the ability to service their pianos. That is a dealer that you can trust. If you purchase wisely, you'll only have to do this once!
Properly restored and warranted used vertical pianos sell for $1400 to $4000. By the way, new digital pianos cost about the same.
With American Music World's full-time restoration department and staff of craftsmen and technicians, we make used pianos sound, feel and look like new ones at the best valued prices.
Choose your piano dealer carefully. While the appearance of the piano will influence you, know that looks have nothing to do with a pianos quality.
American Music World offers the best warrantees and/or full trade-up option. Please call you nearest American Music World location for more information - Chicago, Niles, Naperville, Forest Park. or Call (312)786-9600 Mon. thru Sat 10am-6pm C.S.T.
