Proper Location
Choosing the proper location for your piano is very
important. Environmental conditions affect the tone, the
tuning stability, the finish, and the instruments life.
We recommend placing your piano on or near an inside
wall. (Placing your piano near or on a outside wall can
subject it to extreme temperature and humidity changes
and is not recommended.) Do not place your piano neat a
heat source. Example: Hot Air Register, Radiator, ect.
Keep your piano away from a window that will be opened
to the outside. This will prevent sudden temperature
change. Avoid direct sunlight to maintain the finish at
its best.
Ideal Environmental
Conditions
Pianos operate best when temperature and humidity are
kept at reasonable levels. We suggest you maintain
temperature between 60 & 80 degrees, and humidity
between 30 to 60 percent. During Chicago’s dry
winters a room humidifier is sufficient to add proper
moisture to the air.
Avoid sudden changes of
either temperature or humidity. Sudden changes will
affect the moisture content of all the wooden parts,
causing them to shrink or swell. This can cause the
finish to chip or crack, the string tension to change,
(necessitating more tunings), sluggish key and action
parts.
Tuning and Regulation
Pianos are delicate instruments which require
professional attention periodically. Keeping your
instrument tuned to pitch and well regulated will not
only enhance your enjoyment, but will help your piano
last longer.
When a new piano is moved into your home it will require
some time to adjust to the atmosphere conditions there.
During the first year, we recommend 3 tunings. Along
with tuning all point of regulation should be checked
and adjusted if necessary. This schedule will help your
piano “stabilize”, enabling it to stay in tune longer
and require less movement of the tuning pins when tuned.
After the first year, we recommend 2 tunings a year and
1 regulation.
General Care
Cabinet care
Dust your piano with a soft, clean cloth. If more
thorough cleaning is required, use a slightly dampened
cloth. CAUTION: Do not use furniture polish or wax for
30 days after you receive your piano. If you desire to
wax the finish after 30 day period, use a small amount
of a good quality liquid wax. Polish thoroughly to
remove excess. (Follow manufacturers instructions
carefully). Do not place plastic or rubber mats or coasters on the
piano. Some compounds can stain the finish.
Piano Keys
Use a slightly dampened soft cloth to clean the keys.
Wipe from back to front. CAUTION: Never allow petroleum
or alcohol based substances to come in contact with the
key tops.
Objects On Or In The Piano
Objects placed on the piano can cause poor tone or noisy
vibrations. That also goes for small objects that may
fall inside the piano. Any liquid spill that enters the
piano can cause serious damage. We recommend you use
discretion when placing anything other then sheet music
on your piano.
